Alupe University Vice Chancellor Champions Future-Ready Learning at the 3rd Annual Educational Assessment Symposium

Alupe University reaffirmed its commitment to transformative, learner-centred education during the 3rd Annual Educational Assessment Symposium, a five-day event that brought together key stakeholders in the education sector to reimagine the future of assessment in Kenya.

On Day 4 of the symposium (7th May 2026), the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Barasa, delivered a compelling presentation on the theme: “From Knowing to Doing: Reimagining Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment for Inclusive, Innovative and Future-Ready Learning.”

In his address, Prof. Barasa emphasized the urgent need for education systems to shift from mere knowledge acquisition to the development of practical competencies. He noted that in an increasingly dynamic and complex world, learners must be equipped not only with theoretical understanding but also with the ability to apply knowledge, think critically, and solve real-world problems.

He called for a deliberate rethinking of curriculum design, teaching methodologies, and assessment approaches to ensure they are inclusive, innovative, and aligned with the demands of the 21st century. His presentation resonated strongly with the broader objectives of the symposium, which sought to strengthen the alignment between teaching, learning, and assessment.

The symposium was organized by the Educational Assessment Resource Centre (EARC), a flagship initiative of the Kenya National Examinations Council. Established to modernize and transform educational assessment systems, EARC plays a pivotal role in supporting Kenya’s transition to Competency-Based Education (CBE) and Competency-Based Assessment (CBA).

Since its official launch on 4th July 2025, the Centre has emerged as a strategic national and regional hub of excellence, championing learner-centred and evidence-driven approaches to assessment. The five-day symposium provided a vital platform for dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge exchange among educators, policymakers, and practitioners.

Alupe University’s participation in this important forum underscores its leadership in advancing educational innovation and reform. By contributing to national conversations on curriculum and assessment, the University continues to position itself at the forefront of preparing graduates who are not only knowledgeable but also skilled, adaptable, and future-ready.

As Kenya continues to implement Competency-Based Education, Alupe University remains committed to nurturing graduates who can effectively translate knowledge into action, bridging the gap between knowing and doing for the benefit of society.
