Strategically located on 200 acres between the bustling border towns of Busia and Malaba, Alupe
University stands as Busia County’s only public university and a vibrant hub for academic excellence,
innovation, and global collaboration. Its journey began in 2007, when the Busia community presented a
heartfelt memorandum to the late President of Kenya, H.E. Mwai Kibaki, envisioning a university that would
transform education and development in the region.
In 2008, that vision took shape and became a reality with the establishment of the Alupe Campus of Moi
University. Through growth, strategic planning, and collaboration, it became Alupe University College in
2015 through the Alupe University College Order 2015, Gazette Notice No. 153 of 24 th July 2015. Alupe
University was chartered as a fully-fledged public university on 22 nd August 2022.
Today, Alupe University is home to four specialized Schools, namely: the School of Health Sciences (SHS); the School of Education and Social Sciences (SESS), the School of Business, Economics, and Human Resource Development (SBEHRD); and the School of Science, Technology, and Engineering (SSTE), alongside an accredited TVET Institute. The University offers diploma, undergraduate, and graduate programmes that are relevant, globally competitive, industry-responsive, and designed to prepare students for local, regional, and global impact.
Alupe University’s strategic location near leading research institutions such as KEMRI, KALRO, and LBDA creates unmatched opportunities for collaboration in teaching, research, and community outreach. By blending academic excellence with practical innovation, Alupe University continues to empower students, strengthen regional development, and contribute meaningfully to Kenya’s, and the region’s socio-economic growth.

Alupe University had it 1st graduation as a fully chartered University on 18th January 2023 and has had 2 graduations so far.
