A new team of student leaders has officially been inaugurated in a ceremony that marked the transition of leadership and renewed commitment to student service. The event brought together university management, outgoing student leaders, and the newly elected representatives.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Peter Barasa, congratulated the incoming student leaders and commended the outgoing leadership for their dedication and service. He described the outgoing student leaders as, “one of the best leaders the university has had”, and thanked them for their commitment in representing students’ interests.
The Vice-Chancellor further challenged the new leadership to consider constitutional reforms that would promote greater inclusion, particularly by increasing women’s representation in student leadership structures. “Leadership should reflect diversity and inclusivity. It is important to review the constitution and ensure that more women are given opportunities to participate in student leadership,” he said.
During the ceremony, the outgoing Secretary General, Mr. Ronny Kipkorir congratulated the newly elected leaders and encouraged them to set aside political differences that may have emerged during the electioneering period. He emphasized the importance of unity, urging the leaders to focus their energy on addressing the needs and welfare of the students. “Leadership is about service. Now that the elections are over, it is time to put aside political differences and work together to assist students and address their concerns,” Ronny Kipkorir said.
The outgoing student president also took the opportunity to congratulate the new leadership team. He advised them to maintain close cooperation with the university administration to ensure smooth operations and effective delivery of services to students. “Working closely with the school management will help you achieve more and solve student issues efficiently,” he noted.
The inauguration marks the beginning of a new leadership chapter, with expectations high that the new team will foster unity, strengthen collaboration with the university management, and champion the welfare and development of the student community.
