ALUPE UNIVERSITY PREPARES FOR CBC TRANSITION WITH CBET TRAINING

Alupe University has intensified efforts to align its teaching with national education reforms through a Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) workshop for new and experienced academic staff that took place on the 18th of March, 2026 at the University.

The training, facilitated by Prof. Khaemba Ongeti of Moi University, focuses on CBET reforms in higher education, covering its philosophy, principles, and the shift from content-based to competency-driven learning. The sessions are equipping dons with practical approaches to skills-based teaching and assessment.

Speaking at the opening session, Dr. Magero, Dean of the School of Science, Technology and Engineering, represented the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Barasa, and affirmed the University’s commitment to the initiative. “The University leadership fully supports this training as it equips our teaching staff with the competencies needed to effectively handle CBC students expected to join our institutions from 2029,” he said.

He urged faculty to adopt learner-centered approaches that promote critical thinking and practical skills. “We must rethink how we design, deliver, and assess our programmes to produce graduates who are industry-ready and solution-oriented,” he added.

The workshop has sparked engaging discussions among participants and marks a key step in positioning Alupe University to seamlessly integrate CBC graduates while maintaining excellence in teaching and learning.
