Biography

Brian Mutuma Kathurima, MSc (Clinical Chemistry) is a Tutorial Fellow in Clinical Chemistry in the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, School of Health Sciences, at Alupe University. He holds a Master of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences (Clinical Chemistry) and is currently pursuing a PhD in Clinical Chemistry at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology.

As an emerging academic and researcher, Brian combines expertise in clinical chemistry, medical laboratory education, and laboratory quality management. Before joining Alupe University in 2025, he served as a Vocational and Technical Trainer at Sigalagala National Polytechnic and as a Clinical Instructor at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, where he taught undergraduate courses in clinical chemistry, biochemistry, research methods, and related laboratory sciences.

Brian is a licensed Medical Laboratory Technologist registered with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board and a member of the Clinical Chemistry Association of Kenya. His professional experience includes laboratory leadership, quality assurance, and participation in initiatives supporting ISO 15189 accreditation.

His research interests center on metabolic diseases, clinical biomarkers, laboratory quality systems, and the application of artificial intelligence in health data analytics. Through his teaching and research, he is dedicated to advancing evidence-based laboratory practice, mentoring future healthcare professionals, and contributing to innovative solutions that strengthen health systems in Kenya and beyond.
