Alupe University Medical Laboratory Students Association Marks White Coat Day with Pride and Purpose
On the 9th October, 2025, the Alupe University Medical Laboratory Students Association (AUMELSA) held a colorful White Coat Day ceremony to celebrate and induct new students into the medical laboratory science profession. The event, filled with pride, reflection, and inspiration, took place at the university’s main hall and brought together students and lecturers.

The White Coat Ceremony is a symbolic tradition that happens yearly in the university as it marks a key milestone in their academic and professional journey. During the event, students donned their white coats, signifying their commitment to uphold integrity, professionalism, and ethical standards in the medical laboratory field.
Speaking during the ceremony, the lecturer Mr Eliud Keter, lauded the students for their dedication and reminded them of the vital role laboratory professionals play in disease diagnosis and patient care.

“The white coat is not just a garment; it is a symbol of trust and responsibility. As future medical laboratory scientists, you are the unseen backbone of the healthcare system,” she said. He further encouraged the students to pursue excellence and continuous learning, especially as the field of laboratory science continues to evolve with new technologies and global health challenges.

AUMELSA President Kevin Ochieng expressed gratitude to the faculty and administration for their continued support and mentorship, noting that the ceremony not only instills professional pride but also strengthens the sense of community and identity among students.
“Today marks a day of professionalism for us, as medical laboratory scientists the coat signifies something even deeper, we are the unseen heroes behind every diagnosis, the quiet guardians of accuracy and the bridge between patients and physicians our work speaks in the language of evidence,” the president remarked.
He further explained the three pillars of their profession which is professionalism, compassion and responsibility, stating that as future of professionals in the medical field every report they sign and every result we release carries their name and a signature of accountability. He urged colleagues to work hard in their studies and make sure they become professionals who know what they are doing.

As the ceremony concluded, a sense of enthusiasm and responsibility filled the air. For the young professionals in training, the White Coat Day was more than a celebration, it was a reminder of their calling to serve humanity through science, precision, and care.
