The VC Touchingly Talks to First year Students
Guided by the prophecies of Prophet Jeremiah, that “the heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure; who can understand it?” Jeremiah 17:9 is a sober reminder that human nature is deeply flawed and self-deceptive

Accordingly, this verse emphasizes the inherent deceitfulness and complexity of human emotions and intentions. In his passionate address to the over one thousand students attending the talk, Prof Barasa _the VC not only spoke to them, but endeared the need to remain human, while upholding the ethical standards that are expected from an upright man/woman.
Whilst the talk was anchored on the verse, the Vice Chancellor linked the students’ way of life, mental health, rooming, academic focus and class attendance, not forgetting the place of co-curricular activities, clubs and societies. The great potential that lies in innovations also featured in his talk and pointed out how fellow students in higher learning are leveraging on information technology, and using the available resources like internet to research and develop solutions to prevailing problems within the society.

His use of prophet Jeremiah’s verse doubled as an in-depth thought of a targeted message, as well as a clarion call and a warning to the students as was used by Prophet Jeremiah in the Old Testament to the people of Judah about their spiritual corruption and misplaced trust. It highlights the fallen nature of the human heart, which narrows down to our inner thoughts, motives, and desires. These are aspects that only God can truly know the intention of the human heart, and that there shall be a reward each person according to their conduct.
