A delegation from the office of the president of the republic of Kenya toured the ongoing ultramodern students’ hostel project at Alupe university on 10th September, 2025. Lead by Mr Kipchumba Some, Mr Jonah Mwangi together with the press team came to get an update on the facility that is poised to host over 2,008 undergraduate and post graduate students. According to the project’s manager, Eng. Andrew Onyango, the project is expected to be completed and handed over by August, 2026.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by the DVC-AFD, Prof Toboso, and DVC-ARSA, Prof Orina who took the presidential team around the project in the company of the cite manger for briefings on each aspect of the project. Core components of the project include: a permanent perimeter wall, swimming pool for both adults and children, basket ball court, dedicated units for postgraduate students which accounts for 10% on each floor, a students’ centre, car parking area, powerhouse, and sewerage treatment plant.

“On behalf of the Vice chancellor, Alupe University is very thankful to the president for this project, which upon completion, will help to accommodate our growing student population that now stands at about 4,800”, said Prof Orina.

Prof Toboso noted that the 3D-model of the project was ranked position one in Naivasha during the Kenya Urban Forum this year, beating many other projects that were being showcased in the conference. The Kenya Urban Forum (KUF) is an event that brings together national and county leaders, urban planners and development planners to strategize for the country’s urban agenda. The project is not only benefiting the university.

Lives of the people from the local community are directly being impacted from the transport sector which on daily basis ferries hundreds of laborers to the cite, the hospitality sector that is now engaged in preparing meals for the workers all day long, and students undertaking civil and construction studies. There are currently 25 students of engineering attached to the project and six interns. The project manager, and the Busia County Director of Housing, Mr Jason Abuga are optimistic of the timely completion of the student’s accommodation project where he is looking forward to introducing a 24-hour work-shift, which in his estimation, might see the project materializing ahead of the planned schedule.

A good one
